Earth Day 2011 Celebration in Tbilisi


Stop Climate Change. Play Your Part” was the slogan of Earth Day events organized on April 22, 2011 by CENN in cooperation with Partnership for the Road Safety, United States Agency for International Development (USAID), United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP), Global Fuel Economy Initiative (GFEI), partner organizations, and the European Union (EU).


An Eco-transport exhibition of green Cars was arranged at the Rose Revolution Square in Tbilisi. The showcased vehicles were selected for their fuel efficiency, small size and low emissions of pollutants and noise. The representatives of Toyota, Opel, Daewoo, Iberia Business Group, the National Cycling Federation, the Georgian National Automobile Federation and magazine Auto Bild took part in the event. Besides the representatives of different NGOs and international organizations, the exhibition was visited by Tbilisi mayor, Mr. Gigi Ugulava and Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mr. Irakli Matkava.


In the evening, Europe House hosted an open lecture on climate change and an award ceremony of the winners of the youth completion on Climate Change and Natural Disasters. Prizes and certificates were given to 20 pupils and 3 students from regional schools and universities of Georgia.


The program dedicated to Earth Day 2011 was finalized by the opening of a conceptual art exhibition - “Eco Inspiration”, which presented paintings, installations and works of video and photo art.
